Lake Fork is going through lots of changes right now.
We are seeing lots of new lily pads, algea, hydrilla, and floating vegetation.
The lake is full this year, so it is in great shape. The rains we have
had all spring have kept the water murky in most of the lake, but it
is finally starting to clear up. A large percentage of the spawn is
already over, but there are still a lot of fish yet to spawn. With the
murky water and the strong winds most of the spring, the sight fishing
has been tougher than normal. But when you do get a fairly calm day
(like today was), the fishing can be very good. Today, we got a couple
of 9 pounders and several other good fish.
My usual baits are working best for the bedding fish - lizards, tubes,
and ring frys are my favorites. I like to go with the natural colors
(like watermelon/red), but most any color will work if you know how
to work the beds properly.
Water temps are still in the mid 60's. The floating grass is covering
the banks all over the lake in the majority of the coves, especially
north of 515. I've been finding fish in most every cove, but the ones
with lots of submerged grass have quite a bit more fish. See our recent
pics at http://www.bassfishing.org/pictures/recent.htm
